Improve Posture, Strength, and Movement Efficiency
Foundation Training is a corrective exercise system created by Dr. Eric Goodman to help the body find length, strength, and space through intentional movement. By focusing on breathwork, core engagement, and structural alignment, this method can help alleviate pain and improve movement patterns.
I’ve been practicing Foundation Training since 2019 and became a certified student instructor in 2024. Foundation Training pairs beautifully with Rolfing® Structural Integration, as both emphasize alignment, balance, taking up space, and whole-body integration.
What is Foundation Training?
Drawing from modern concepts of biotensegrity—influenced in part by Thomas Myers of Anatomy Trains, a former Rolf Institute instructor—Foundation Training works to restore postural integrity and address:
-
Nerve impingement
-
Spinal compression and rib restrictions
-
Slumped or rounded shoulders
-
Hip instability and poor movement mechanics
By using isometric holds, precise movement sequences, and techniques like anchoring, hip hinging, and decompression breathing, Foundation Training helps retrain your body to move with greater ease and efficiency.
Who Can Benefit from Foundation Training?
Foundation Training is useful for:
-
People with chronic pain or postural issues (e.g., lower back pain, neck tension, tight hips)
-
Athletes & active individuals looking to improve movement efficiency and injury resilience
-
Desk workers who experience stiffness and poor posture from prolonged sitting
-
Anyone seeking a long-term approach to strength, mobility, and body awareness
If you’re new to Foundation Training, I’ll guide you through fundamental postures and breathing techniques to establish a strong base. If you’ve already explored the method, I can help refine your form and deepen your practice through personalized feedback.
